As the Minnesota United FC (MNUFC) is nearing the halfway point of their inaugural Major League Soccer (MLS) season, Sports & Orthopaedic Specialists is pleased to have been able to play an integral role with the team.  Allina Health and Minnesota United FC announced a partnership in early-March, making Allina Health the team's official orthopedic partner as well as a founding partner of the organization, coinciding with the team’s transition into the MLS in 2017.

Sports & Orthopaedic Specialists assembled the medical team to support MNUFC by starting with Dr. Aimee Klapach, orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, Dr. Joe Bellamy, orthopaedic surgeon specializing in foot/ankle surgery, and Dr. Robby Bershow, sports medicine physician. All three have backgrounds as team physicians for sports teams, with Dr. Bellamy bringing a unique viewpoint after providing care for elite groups while with the US Navy.  The providers were joined by Sean Kupiec who was hired as the MNUFC head athletic trainer.  This is Kupiec’s eighth season as a head athletic trainer in MLS after previously working with New England Revolution and Chivas USA. Minnesota United also added assistant athletic trainer/physical therapist, Stacy Hardin, who joins the team after working at Boston University as an assistant athletic trainer from 2011-2016 and a sports medicine facility in Los Angeles, CA for the past year.

As Nick Rogers, president, Minnesota United reported in the March press release, Minnesota United has indicated a focus on player heath as a key initiative for this season and beyond. “Maximizing player health and longevity is of the utmost importance in sports today, so selecting the right orthopedic partner is one of the most important decisions we will make as a club. We’re thrilled to be working with Allina Health and know their support will have a beneficial and direct impact on our players and on their performance on the pitch.” This goal of maximizing player health and longevity fits well with the Sports & Orthopaedic Specialists objective of ensuring active lifestyles through non-operative and operative measures.
The Minnesota United FC has put together a number of strong performances in home matches at TCF Bank Stadium on the University of Minnesota campus. If you haven’t had an opportunity to catch a match, we encourage you to join us on July 19th for the Allina Health Activity Nights at Minnesota United FC!
