Sports & Orthopaedic Specialists Virtual Visits Available During COVID-19 Shelter in Place

What is a virtual visit? 

A Virtual Visit allows you to see your provider, discuss your injury and receive a treatment plan all from your home or office. This is completed with a video conference all between you and the provider .  the provider is able to see you and hear you and you (the patient) are able to see the provider and hear them as well. 

 
How is a virtual visit complete? 
All virtual visits can only be completed through Allina’s MyChart account. A visit can only be completed with a device that has webcam and microphone  capabilities, such as smart device (i.e. phone or tablet), laptop, or desktop computer.  

How do you schedule a virtual visit? 
You must be a current patient with Allina and have an active Allina MyChart account.  If you are a current patient with Sports and Orthopeadic Specialists, you may send a myChart message to your current provider about scheduling an appointment.  If you are new to Sports and Orthopeadic Specialists you may call 952-946-9777 and we will help  connect you to the appropriate team to get a visit scheduled  in the future.  
 
What to expect during a Virtual Visit:
When it is time for your Virtual Visit, you must login to the MyChart app, click on the "Appointment" icon then click on "Begin Visit."  This will then arrive you for the visit and the provider will connect shortly.
 
1) Virtual Visits are most effective when using your Smart device such as a cell phone or tablet. 
            A)  Please download the Allina MyChart app on your Smart device.
2) Laptops may also be used but you must use the newest versions of Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge as your Internet browser during the visit. 
3) Your device should have a camera, microphone and speaker. 
4) During the visit you should close all other streaming apps on your device. 
5) Find a safe, private space to conduct your visit - you cannot be driving during the visit. 
6) You can join the Virtual Visit up to 30 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment time. Although our providers will do their best to connect to the visit at the scheduled start time of your appointment, please be patient and wait for them to connect as they may be running a few minutes behind. Your link will stay effective up to 1 hour past your appointment time. 
 
Insurance:
In Minnesota, all commercial payers are required to reimburse Virtual Visits the same as they would for an office visit. However, national employers and plans may vary in regard to Virtual Visit coverage. For confirmation of coverage based on your specific plan and for any questions regarding Virtual Visit coverage with your insurance company, please contact the number on the back of your insurance card.
